The former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr. Mudashiru Obasa, has claimed that his impeachment did not adhere to legal protocols and that the election of Mrs. Mojisola Meranda as his successor was illegitimate.

Speaking to a gathering of APC members from the Mandate Group at his residence in Ikeja, Obasa maintained that he remains the Speaker until a proper impeachment process is followed.

He claimed that a counterfeit mace was utilized during the installation of Meranda and alleged that a significant police presence on the day of his removal was intended to intimidate his supporters. Furthermore, Obasa reported that police officers also surrounded his residence, restricting access for family members and guests.

Describing these actions as unlawful, he vowed to contest his removal in court and expressed a desire to return to his role as Speaker.

He emphasized that the title of Speaker is not personal but rather a position of responsibility, akin to a General in battle. He stated, "I am not disturbed, perturbed, or worried about the purported removal," but insisted on the necessity for proper procedures.

Obasa criticized the involvement of law enforcement, noting that over 200 officers blocked access to his official residence and interfered with family members' movements.

He reiterated his long-standing commitment to the Assembly and dismissed allegations regarding financial misconduct, including claims of misusing funds for construction projects.

He refuted accusations of extravagant spending on a gate for the Assembly and denied purchasing vehicles at inflated prices. Obasa expressed confidence in his record as a lawmaker over two decades and affirmed his dedication to the Assembly's integrity.

He also acknowledged support from various political figures, including Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and President Bola Tinubu.
