The prospect of a union between Peter Obi, the Labour Party's (LP) 2023 presidential candidate, and Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party's (PDP) 2023 presidential candidate, has been dismissed by former House of Representatives member Tajudeen Yusuf.

On Monday, Yusuf discussed his views in an interview with journalists.

Recall that following a meeting between the two leaders a few weeks ago, rumours of an Obi-Atiku merger began to circulate.

Regarding the planned merger, Tajudeen stated that he cannot see Obi and Atiku collaborating in 2027.

Yusuf claims that Atiku's remark following the meeting and other obstacles make an alliance between the two extremely difficult.

In the meeting, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar came out to say he will continue to contest as long as he’s alive and in good health.

That comment was intended as a signal to those who were spreading rumours, particularly in the media, that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar may resign and give up his political aspirations in favour of Peter Obi.

Yusuf said the possibility of both men running for office in 2027 makes talks for a collaboration challenging.
