The meeting was reported to have been preceded by a gathering at the residence of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, in Abuja. Following this preliminary meeting, Wike led his former colleagues to the Presidential Villa for talks with President Tinubu.
Although specific details of the meeting were not readily available at the time of this report, a working relationship between the president and the former governors was a prominent topic on the agenda.
An inside source, who preferred to remain anonymous due to a lack of authorization to discuss the matter, mentioned that the G-5 PDP Governors initially convened at Wike's residence for a few hours before proceeding to the Villa to confer with the president.
“Exact details of what was discussed isn’t available to me at the moment, but from discussions held during the initial meeting at Wike’s residence, it was all about finding accommodation for the former governors in the scheme of things and of course, how they can work together .”
The source noted the importance of the meeting between the former governors and President Tinubu, occurring just a day before the kick-off of the Imo State PDP governorship campaign in Owerri. Simultaneously, tensions are escalating regarding the position of the party Secretary.
In attendance at this meeting were a notable group of former Governors, including Nyesom Wike, who previously served as the Governor of Rivers State and is currently the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
Also present were Samuel Ortom, the former Governor of Benue State, Ifianyi Ugwuanyi, the former Governor of Enugu State, Okezie Ikpeazu, the former Governor of Abia State, and Seyi Makinde, the current Governor of Oyo State.
