Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has directed all Heads of Local Government Administration in the 23 local government areas of the state to "immediately" take over councils on Tuesday, June 18, 2024.
According to Lagos Local News, this decision comes after the tenures of the 23 Chairmen of Local Government Areas (LGAs) expired on Monday, June 17, 2024.
In a broadcast on Tuesday morning, Governor Fubara directed the HLGAs to “immediately take charge of the Councils with renewed vigor and readiness to serve and await further directives as we navigate towards even greater accomplishments together.”
He congratulated them on the completion of their tenures and wished them well in their future endeavours.
Fubara emphasised that the decision was in compliance with the law and the Federal Republic of Nigeria's constitution, ensuring that the administrative vacuum created by the outgoing LGA Chairmen is quickly filled.
Governor Fubara reassured the people of Rivers State of his dedication to their welfare, promising to continue protecting their interests while also delivering infrastructural development, competent healthcare delivery, quality education, and comprehensive welfare services to all residents and workers.
During the speech, he expressed his gratitude to the people for supporting his administration and affirmed his commitment to working collaboratively to build a brighter and better future for everyone.
