Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai has officially resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing a significant divergence between his personal values and the party's current trajectory.

In a statement released on Monday, March 10, 2025, El-Rufai expressed his deep disappointment with the APC's leadership, accusing the party of straying from its foundational principles and neglecting internal democracy.

El-Rufai, a key figure in the APC's formation in 2013, had long been a vocal advocate for the party's progressive ideals. However, he stated that recent developments within the party have made it clear that the current leadership is unwilling to address the party's internal issues.

Despite his contributions to the APC's electoral successes in 2015, 2019, and 2023, El-Rufai felt that his efforts were no longer valued by the party's leadership.

Following extensive consultations with his mentors, colleagues, and supporters, El-Rufai announced his decision to join the Social Democratic Party (SDP). He views the SDP as a more suitable platform for advancing his progressive political ideals, emphasizing the need for a unified democratic front to challenge the APC in future elections.

El-Rufai has called on his supporters and like-minded individuals to join him in the SDP, aiming to restore democratic values and promote good governance in Nigeria.
