Acts of thugs and violence, according to Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, go against the spirit of democracy, which encourages voters to vote.
The governor, who also expressed disapproval of a number of instances of political violence in Osun state, stated that elections are about choices rather than war.
Adeleke made these declarations while getting political pioneers who visited him on the electing triumphs of the Osun People groups Progressive faction (PDP) in the overall decisions.
He criticized the shedding of blameless blood by certain legislators and recognized the endeavors of safety organizations during the surveys in the state.
"Massive victories for me and my party on February 25th and March 18th of this year have been reaffirmed and revalidated by my election as Governor on July 16, 2022," he stated. Our mandate is of the people, for the people, and by the people, as can be attested to by everyone in the world.
“Elected people hold power in trust for the people. We must therefore bow to people’s will. When you fail in a poll, go back and prepare for the next round of election. That is democracy in action. We must eschew violence. It is unacceptable to kill and maim people you are seeking to govern.
“As we celebrate the successes of the poll, we are also sympathizing with victims of political violence across the state. We are saddened by deliberate acts of thuggery in some parts of the state. I will repeat here that election is not war but choice making.”
