The Minister of Works, Chief David Umahi, ahead of the February 3, 2024 bye-election for Ebonyi South Senatorial seat, has urged people of the district, particularly, members of All Progressive Congress (APC) to put their differences aside to enable the party emerge victorious.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled the bye-election in the area to fill the vacancy created by the appointment of the initial occupant, Umahi, as minister.
APC candidate, Prof. Anthony Ani is squaring up with three other visible contenders; Linus Okorie of Labour Party, Silas Onu-Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Ifeanyi Eleje of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
Speaking during a grand reception organized by the zone at his Abakaliki residence on Friday, Umahi declared that only reconciliation and unity would give the party’s candidate victory.
“This is the time for reconciliation so that the votes of APC won’t be missed, I am advising that everyone should unite not only to make success but also go back to the various polling units and do the needful,” he said.
The minister further said that the South East has been integrated at the national level and appealed that solidarity should be shown to both President Bola Tinubu and the governor of Ebonyi State, Chief Francis Nwifuru.
He also thanked the governor for consolidating on the legacies of his political structure; the Divine Mandate, in every aspect of his administration, urging people to show gratitude to the governor.
APC State Chairman, Chief Stanley Okoro-Emegha, said that the essence of the meeting was to welcome and identify with the minister whom he described as both engineering and political expert.
He warned the five council chairmen from the zone that their second tenure in office was dependent on the performance of the party in their council areas in the bye-election.
