Asiwaju Bisi Adegbuyi, a former Postmaster General of the Federation, has called President Muhammadu Buhari's broadcast on the cash exchange situation "a recipe for anarchy."

The senior attorney has referred to the President's choice to modify the Supreme Court's order in any way as contempt of the court.

Adegbuyi argued that the President cannot claim to have respect for the court if he gives directives that are in conflict with the ruling of the supreme court.

Even though the Supreme Court ruled that all old notes should remain a legal tender, the President stated in his broadcast that the Apex Bank should only reissue the N200 note.

The former Postmaster General questioned the President's intentions in light of the Supreme Court's unequivocal ruling on the subject.

He concurred with the school of thinking that claims Buhari's most recent decision on the naira exchange problem is illegal.

The Supreme Court stated on Thursday that its February 8 order still stands and that the Federal Government should not impose the February 10 deadline for the use of old naira notes, whether through the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) or any other agent.

In his reactions, he said: “What’s happening underscores our position that Nigeria urgently requires a reset; a new beginning if you like. I align myself with the people who believe Mr President is in contempt of the Supreme Court.

“And that’s a recipe for anarchy stemming from a total disregard for the pronouncement of the highest court in the land. The aforementioned are just symptoms of a Country in dire need of total and complete reforms of its political and economic processes. The political reforms being the big elephant in the room.”
