The Ondo State House of Assembly has approved the appointment of Dr Olayide Owolabi Adelami as the deputy governor of the state.
Adelami, who hails from the Owo council area of the state, was screened and confirmed by the lawmakers at a plenary presided over by the Speaker, Rt Hon Olamide Oladiji.
His confirmation was a sequel to the submission and consideration of the screening committee headed by the Speaker of the Assembly.
The Clerk of the House, Jaiyeola Benjamin, had earlier read the letter forwarded to the House by the State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, on Wednesday for the consideration of the nominees for the position of Deputy Governor.
Submitting the report, at the plenary, the Deputy Speaker of the House, Abayomi Akinruntan, recommended the confirmation of the appointment of the nominees.
Akinruntan said that the nominee has been properly screened by the lawmakers and the committee.
He said, “the nominee responded to all questions raised by the Committee in a very eloquent and explicit order.
“He has a clear understanding of the position, he possess the required academic qualifications, physically, mentally and emotionally stable and fit to accomplish the task.
“The nominee possess the required experience, Charisma and the much needed exposure to function effectively.”
The Majority leader of the House, Hon Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi, therefore, moved the motion for the consideration of the report and the confirmation of the nominees.
Ogunmolasuyi’s motion was seconded by Felix Afe representing Akoko North West 2.
The Speaker, Rt Hon. Oladiji, thereafter ruled that the nominee be confirmed.
Oladiji thereafter congratulated the Deputy Governor’s designate and urged him to put in his best.
He also pledged the House support to the executive for the people of the state to enjoy a more democratic dividend.
Responding, Adelami appreciated the governor for his nomination and promised not to betray the confidence reposed in him.
Adelami equally appreciated the lawmakers for his screening and confirmation and promised to promote a harmonious relationship between the two arms of governments
The deputy governor designate was a retired Deputy Clerk to the National Assembly.
