Former President John Dramani Mahama says Ghanaian homes are falling apart due to the current economic hardships.
He claimed husbands accuse wives of mismanaging household funds when they go to the market while wives accuse husbands of being unable to grow the funds.
President Mahama announced this while addressing delegates and party members at Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese in the Central Region on Wednesday, March 29. He has been given the go-ahead to run in the National Democratic Congress's (NDC's) presidential primary on May 13.
Since Tuesday, March 28, the NDC's three-time presidential candidate has been touring the Central Region.
When Mr. Mahama visited the Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese Constituency, he stated that it is not the fault of spouses to want an increase in "chop money," like as GH20, because food prices have skyrocketed.
When questioned about it, he claimed that the Akufo-Addo led administration has consistently cited COVID-19 and the Russia-Ukraine war as justifications.
“It's all lies,” he said. “We are not kids.”
He said that whereas Ghana's inflation rate is over 50%, that of neighboring La Cote d'Ivoire, which also experienced the whims of Covid-19, is closer to 7-8%.
The former president claimed that the Akufo-Addo administration's poor economic management is the only reason for the current high cost of living.
He claims that the NDC will be necessary to deliver Ghanaians from this administration.
