The Peoples Democratic Party's State Executive Committee (SEC) in Benue has approved the suspension of former Governor Samuel Ortom and three others for anti-party acts.
The SEC, which included the State Working Committee, SWC, state assistant officials, and local government area party chairmen, confirmed Ortom's suspension and those of three others at an emergency meeting of the party at its state secretariat in Makurdi on Tuesday.
They also voted to support the State Working Committee, led by the party's state chairman, John Ngbede.
Our correspondents gathered that former Governor Ortom's suspension by the SEC was received with relief by a wide range of state members.
It is considered that Ortom's open support for a rival political party contributed to his party's loss in the general election.
Ortom, one of the G5 governors in the country, urged his supporters to vote for the Labour Party in all elections.
