On Monday, the members of the Sixth Legislature of the Parliament of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) honoured Alhaji Aminu Bayero, the Emir of Kano.

According to reports, the visit is one of the events scheduled for the Second Extraordinary Session of the ECOWAS Parliament, which is taking place in Kano.

The group was led to the Emir's Palace by Sen. Barau Jibrin, the ECOWAS Parliament's acting speaker and deputy president of the Senate.

Lawmakers from twelve different countries including Nigeria, the Benin Republic, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Cote D'Ivoire, Gambia, Ghana, and Guinea attend the second extraordinary session.

In an effort to bring the ECOWAS Parliament closer to the people, Barau informed the royal father that Kano had been chosen for the second special session.

As a result, the ECOWAS Parliament will become more accessible to the general public. Additionally, it will provide a channel for communication and commercial partnerships, noting that ''our founding fathers wanted to use ECOWAS to bring us all together''.

He said the emir is the custodian of our tradition and religion and they are here to seek his blessings and pay their respect for the emirate and the emir.

Responding, Bayero thanked the parliamentarians for the visit, and prayed for the successful conduct of the session.

Bayero encouraged the lawmakers to look into business prospects in the state, even as he praised the deputy senate president for helping to arrange the session's hosting in Kano.
