The All Progressives Congress APC in Benue State, has instructed its party chairmen in each of the 23 local government areas to make sure that the chairmanship and councillorship posts in each council are zoned appropriately.
The party said that the order was given to prevent hostilities in advance of the state's local government elections on October 5.
Recall that the council election that was originally scheduled for November 16 had been rescheduled until October 5 by Dr. John Chen, the chairman of the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC).
He said the new date was to beat the deadline of the recent ruling of the Supreme Court.
The revised date was disclosed by the BSIEC Chairman midweek during a visit to the Makurdi offices of the Commission. The guests were members of the Benue State House of Assembly Committee on Electoral Matters and Civil Society, which is chaired by Mr. Abu Umoru.
The Chairman gave an explanation for the poll's reversed date, citing the recent Supreme Court decision, through the Commission's Secretary, Dr. Vincent Gisaor.
In a statement made by Mr. Benjamin Omakolo, the interim chairman of the State Executive Committee (SEC) of APC, the LG party chairmen were instructed to call a meeting of council stakeholders to finalize zoning.
According to the statement, the State Executive Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State, led by the distinguished Benjamin Omakolo, has instructed the party Chairmen in each of the 23 Local Government Areas (LGAs) to call stakeholder meetings to allocate chairmanship and councillorship positions.
