Senator Elisha Abbo has alleged that Senate President Godswill Akpabio plotted to have him removed by the Court of Appeal.
Abbo made this claim in his Abuja home on Monday, only hours after the Court of Appeal overturned his Senate re-election.
The Adamawa senator further stated that Akpabio plans to remove the former Senate Chief Whip, Senator Orji Uzor Jalu, and four other senators for opposing his Senate presidency aspiration.
Abbo referred to the decision to remove him a coup against democracy and urged the public to continue supporting him despite the ruling.
Despite the fact that the court declared Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Amos Yohanna as the winner of the February election, the senator argued that he had won the poll.
According to him, he defeated the PDP candidate by 11,000 votes.
Recall that Abbo was dismissed by the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal just yesterday.
The appellate court, in a unanimous ruling by a three-member panel of Justices, overturned the tribunal verdict that had previously recognized Abbo of the All Progressives Congress, APC, as the legitimate winner of the Senatorial seat.
It ruled that an appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party's (PDP) candidate in the election, Amos Yohanna, has legitimacy.
Senator Abbo, whose re-election campaign was thwarted by the appellate court ruling, made headlines in 2019 for the wrong reason when he assaulted a lady, Ms. Osimibibra Warmate, in an Abuja sex toy shop.
Following the event, a Federal Capital Territory High Court ordered the politician to pay N50 million in damages to the lady, a finding that was later upheld by an appellate court panel led by Justice Jamilu Tukur.
Meanwhile, the distressed legislator announced his removal from the legislative chamber in a Facebook post on Monday, while calling on his supporters and constituents to remain calm.
