Following Governor Rotimi Akeredolu's illness, the Ondo State administration has claimed that tension and crisis in the state were caused by the political aspirations and actions of the state's deputy governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
Bamidele Ademola-Olateju, the State's Commissioner for Information and Orientation, revealed this on Friday morning during an appearance on Arise News' breakfast talk show, The Morning Show.
She refuted the claim that the sick governor was incapable of carrying out his duties, stating that Akeredolu was effectively carrying out all of his duties with the exception of staying out of the public eye and not showing up at the Ondo State Government House in Akure.
Ademola-Olateju stated that there was nothing to be concerned about other than political agitation in the State, even though she disclosed that the governor was recuperating from a "very bad" illness that she characterized as "somatic."
Additionally, she clarified that the State government was carrying out its mandate by providing the public with social services and infrastructure, including a palliative package for those affected by the fuel subsidy. She further stated that the discussion surrounding Governor Akeredolu's health issue was purely political and unnecessary.
The Information Commissioner stated: “This (the noise) is needless, totally needless…This is just about ambition…
“Too much (projects) is going on in Ondo State, but the political noise has drowned everything because it is just based on ambition and this is unfortunate. Governance is not a circus, governance is not a joke.
“You can see from what is going on, what is even public record, that he (Aiyedatiwa) has gone about it in a very bad way because if I were him, I will act differently. The governor sees Aiyedatiwa, before all these things degenerated, as his son. Even everywhere, he mentioned Aiyedatiwa as his person. I don’t know when the trust broke down and things just went south. And since everything went south, he has gone about it the wrong way.
