The Election Petitions Tribunal in Umuahia allowed the Labour Party and Abia State governor-elect Alex Otti's request to jointly check election documents with the Peoples Democratic Party today.

The court also ordered the Independent National Election Commission to provide the Labour Party with Certified True Copies of all governorship nominees from the late Prof. Uche Ikonne to Okey Ahiwe.

This will comprise official correspondence between the PDP and INEC about the nomination of the party's Abia deputy governorship candidate.

The tribunal had previously allowed the PDP and its candidate's request for an inspection of the materials used in the governorship race.

The PDP and its candidate had petitioned the governorship tribunal to contest the proclamation of the LP candidate, Otti, as the winner of the governorship race, a move that many experts viewed as strange given the LP candidate's overwhelming victory in the elections.

Otti, whose victory sparked unparalleled celebrations across the state, was recognized and returned as the election's winner nearly four days after the polls closed due to a stalemate.

This followed allegations of violence and intimidation directed against INEC employees and Labour Party collation agents.
