He addressed the issue while speaking with reporters in Abuja on Thursday.
It is being anticipated that the APC will give the position of speaker of the House of Representatives to a representative from North-Central, who had expressed interest in running for office.
“I have said it clearly that I will step down if the party did not zone it to the North-Central but it will not be fair to the region that had contributed enormously to the party and has not produced the speaker since the return of democracy in 1999.
Gagdi pointed out that zoning the speaker to North-West that had produced it four times or the North-East that had occupied the seat two times would not be fair to the North-Central.
Gagdi justified why he should be considered for the office by pointing out that, during his first term in Congress, he sponsored 12 bills—six of which were signed into law by the President.
He said that no one who had been in the house for more than 16 years could compare with his record.
“Tell me a member that has in his three years of his first term in the National Assembly sponsored such number of bills that were assented to by the president.
“I am going for a second term in the National Assembly but I have done what a lot of ranking members have not done.
“On the basis of record in the National Assembly, I should be considered. I should be allowed, including all of us from the North-Central.
