The Osun Masterminds, a civil society group situated in Osun, yesterday, urged the governor, Ademola Adeleke, not to embark on the construction of two flyovers in Osogbo as planned.
Instead of constructing flyovers, the group suggested that funds that would have been spent on such projects should be used to make wider roads across the state.
Speaking with newsmen in Osogbo during the state of Osun monthly media parley of the group, the Executive Director of TOM, Prof. Wasiu Oyedokun-Alli, also lamented the poor state of some critical road infrastructure in the state and called on the governor to act immediately to prevent further deterioration.
Oyedokun-Alli, who said even though some of the major roads fall under the supervision of the Federal Government, however, warned that abandoning the roads would have negative implications on the security of lives and property in the state.
He said, “We are compelled to call the attention of the Osun State Government to the state of some critical infrastructure in the State. One important example is the Ibadan-Gbongan-Akure highway.
“While we understand that the Highway is a Trunk A road and should primarily be maintained by the Federal Government, we advise the State Government to liaise with relevant agencies of the Federal Government to maintain the section of the road that is within the domain of our State.”
