Speaking to state house correspondents after the meeting, Okonjo-Iweala clarified that their discussion focused on strategies to generate employment opportunities for both youths and women.

During her conversation with President Tinubu, Okonjo-Iweala stated that her visit was not solely in her capacity as WTO DG. Rather, she aimed to secure the President's commitment to enhancing the livelihoods of Nigerians. The primary goal of her visit was to explore avenues through which Nigerians could derive more benefits from the activities of the WTO.

Okonjo-Iweala highlighted the collaborative efforts between the WTO and Nigerian individuals, particularly women, in trade and manufacturing. She also acknowledged the existing challenges faced by the country and underlined President Tinubu's dedication to advancing the well-being of Nigerians.

The former Minister of Finance underscored that her discussions with the President encompassed a strategic approach to empower women, boost digital trade, and foster job creation, which, in turn, would stimulate Nigeria's economy.

She said her engagement with President Tinubu on potential programs that could be implemented to enhance youth employment, along with the areas where the WTO could play a supportive role."

She said: “We had a conversation on trying to look at the community and grassroots programmes that can be put in place to create jobs for young people, trying to support women and children who are those bearing the brunt of some of the sufferings in the country."
