TotalEnergies Upstream Nigeria Limited has begun the construction of hygiene and sanitation projects in Nigeria's six geopolitical zones as part of its efforts to combat open defecation and infectious diseases.
Mr. Matthieu Bouyer, MD/CEO and Country Chair of Total Energies, said this during the inauguration and handover ceremony of a 10-Unit Solar Powered Hygiene and Sanitary facility at the Enugu State Polytechnic, Iwollo, Enugu state.
According to Bouyer, who was represented by Tonye Osifo, acting general manager, Corporate Social Responsibility, the need for preventative healthcare cannot be overstated in response to the health issues posed by infectious illnesses.
He stated that diseases such as Ebola and the Covid-19 pandemic have demonstrated that basic hygiene, such as hand washing and a clean atmosphere, can go a long way toward protecting people from infectious diseases. Bouyer confirmed that their objective was to expand the crucial hygiene and sanitation initiative throughout Nigeria's six geopolitical zones.
During a speech through a representative, the Nigeria Sao Tome and Principe Joint Development Authority Board Chairman, Dr. Almajiri Geidam, stated at the event that the project which includes ten units of toilets and other important features like a borehole with a perimeter fence, among others, represents the one for Southeast.
He said that an area where Nigeria and the Democratic Republic of Sao Tome and Principe have overlapping maritime boundary claims is managed by the Nigeria Sao Tome and Principe Joint Development Authority.
