The South-East leaders are scheduled to meet with President Bola Tinubu to discuss the possibility of releasing Nnamdi Kanu, according to Ifeanyi Ubah, the senator representing Anambra South Senatorial District.

On Thursday, Ubah revealed this in an interview with Sunrise Daily on Channels Television.

Recall that the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has been kept in custody for around two years.

Ubah claims that Kanu's release will help in reducing security infractions in the South-East geopolitical zone.

He said, “There is a resolution that we are going to meet with the president and we will tick his leniency and see if it is going to be possible to plead with him to have Nnamdi Kanu released.

“We have taken that position and for some of us in the Senate, we have our caucus, we have also taken that position.”

Kanu's release will be a topic for discussion once they can have meetings with the President, according to Ubah.

Kanu, according to Ubah, has openly stated his opposition to sit-at-home protests during one of his court appearances.

Ubah complained that the recent rise in sit-at-home orders that has stunted the growth of the zone's economy.

He said, “The agitation is different, we are talking about sit-at-home which is really deteriorating the economy of the southeast region. The agitation is a political issue about the inequities in how an Igbo man is seen in Nigeria.”
