This resolution was reached during a recent plenary session, prompted by a motion presented by Senator Abdulaziz Yar’Adua (APC-Katsina).

The motion was raised in response to the abduction of five female students from the Federal University Dutsinma in Katsina State and the recent abduction of approximately 24 students from the Federal University of Gusau in Zamfara State.

Senator Yar’Adua noted that the successful rescue of sixteen of the abducted Gusau students, but noted that these incidents have instilled a sense of fear and unease in university communities across the region.

Furthermore, the motion drew attention to the abduction of eight National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members in Zamfara State while en route to their camp on August 21. These NYSC members, traveling in an Akwa Ibom Transport Company (AKTC) bus, fell victim to suspected terrorists.

Senator Yar’Adua emphasized the increasing frequency of ransom-based kidnappings in major towns and communities, particularly in the North West and other regions of the country. He underscored the urgent need for the establishment of state police as a crucial step toward addressing the nation's security challenges.

Additionally, Senator Yar’Adua called upon security agencies to take proactive measures to secure the safe release of the abducted female students and NYSC members. He urged the military to conduct special operations aimed at dismantling the activities of bandits in the North-West and other affected regions.
