The decision to demolish the estate comes in the wake of a severe flood incident that occurred in the estate after heavy rainfall on the early morning of Friday, June 23rd.
Earlier, the FCT Administration had declared Trademore Estate a disaster zone, citing the persistent and escalating threat of flooding in the area. Consequently, residents were advised to evacuate promptly. However, on Monday morning, residents came out in protest, urging the Federal Capital Territory Administration to explore engineering solutions instead of resorting to demolitions.
Some of the residents held placards that read “Provide engineering solutions, not roadside approach”, “put an end to senseless killing”, “Trademore Estate is not a disaster zone”, etc.
