Engr. Dave Umahi, the minister of works, on Thursday ordered a lockout on his ministry's staff because of their late arrival to work.
According to Lagos Local News, the workers subsequently staged a protest after the Minister decided to shut them outside.
The protesting staff lamented the fact that they lived far away and had no way of arriving at the office early while chanting "Umahi Must Go".
According to a senior member of the staff who talked with Newsmen on the condition of anonymity, the distance from their homes is the main cause of their late arrival at work.
“That some of them are on hundred thousand naira salary a month, some are on N80,000 salary a month and they are married people. So by the time you subtract both transport and everything, you have nothing left with nothing. So, they have to rely on one way or the other to come to the office,” he said.
The minister reportedly later permitted them entry, but they also insisted that the minister must address them outside the building before they would enter the Ministry.
They claimed that they wanted the minister to take action as a result of their late coming and that he had not given them any notice beforehand by issuing a circular or other kind of notification.
