The Edo State Police Command has presented before the public a 400-Level student from the University of Port Harcourt, identified as Victor Ochonogor, who is suspected of involvement in a tragic incident resulting in the death of his girlfriend at his residence in Benin City.

Reportedly, the distressing incident transpired at 10, Osahon Street, Ogheghe Quarters, off Sapele Road, Benin City. During the unfortunate episode, Ochonogor and his girlfriend reportedly confined themselves within the house as the violent confrontation unfolded. The police were notified of the situation by Ochonogor's landlord.

Addressing the media while parading the suspect at the police command, Commissioner of Police Dankwara Mohammed disclosed that the police received the report about the incident around 4 p.m. on August 21, 2023. Without delay, the police initiated their investigative procedures.

The suspect, 25-year-old Ochonogor, provided his side of the story: “I have been in a relationship with her for three years, and she accused me of being involved in kidnapping activities. I questioned her as to why she would make such allegations against me after our long time together."

He continued, “I am not a kidnapper, and some members of her family are well-acquainted with me.” Ochonogor clarified that he did not take his girlfriend's life due to jealousy or the fact that she intended to marry another man.

The incident has raised concerns and garnered public attention, highlighting the importance of thorough investigations and due process.
