Four individuals have been apprehended for the theft of iron rods from an ongoing prison project site in Ilesa, Osun State.
An unnamed security source, speaking on Saturday, informed Sunday PUNCH that the culprits successfully relocated the stolen rods from the construction site.
However, their attempt to transport the stolen goods was foiled when the vehicle used was intercepted by members of the Nigeria Hunters and Forest Security Service on patrol in Owode, Ede.
In a video capturing the encounter between the suspects and their captors, one of the individuals claimed to be the driver responsible for transporting the stolen items. The remaining three suspects included the construction engineer and two artisans employed at the project site.
Ahmed Nureni, the Osun Commander of the NHFSS, confirmed the incident, stating that the interception occurred late in the evening on Thursday at Owode, Ede, along the Gbongan/Osogbo road.
He revealed, "They are construction workers at an ongoing government-sponsored project in Ilesa. They informed us that the project is a prison construction, and they had placed an order for the items just a few weeks ago."
When contacted, Yemisi Opalola, the Public Relations Officer for the Osun Police Command, affirmed that the suspects were currently in police custody.
