NYSC Commemorates Yakubu Gowon's 89th Birthday

In celebration of the 89th birthday of Gen Yakubu Gowon (GCFR), the founder of National Youth Service Corps, the Director General, others led a delegation to express their felicitations and gratitude.

During the Friday gathering, Brigadier General Ahmed extended his sincere appreciation for General Gowon's life and his substantial contributions to the NYSC, emphasizing the significance of General Gowon's continued involvement with the NYSC.

He remarked, "We are profoundly thankful to God for granting General Gowon the privilege of witnessing his eighty-ninth birthday. We beseech the Almighty for his prolonged life, as the NYSC consistently reaps the rewards of his profound wisdom."

In response, General Gowon conveyed his deep gratitude to the NYSC for their unwavering commitment to the core ideals of the program. He stated, "I am genuinely appreciative of the entire NYSC community for upholding the principles of the program and introducing several innovative initiatives."

General Gowon, the former Head of State, also expressed his optimism about the prospective NYSC Trust fund bill, explaining its potential to further advance the goals of the NYSC, although he refrained from disclosing specific details.

General Gowon's address continued with an emphasis on the essential qualities of dedication and patriotism that Corps Members should uphold. He encouraged them to persevere in their service to the nation, affirming, "I implore all Corps Members to remain disciplined, loyal, and patriotic in their dedication to our beloved nation."

Since its establishment by General Gowon in 1973, the NYSC has consistently played a pivotal role in promoting unity and development among the Nigerian youth.
