This joint decision was made to compel the federal government to address the severe suffering and hardship inflicted on citizens due to the removal of the fuel subsidy.

Despite earlier assurances from the federal government to resolve wage-related issues, which were among the key demands put forth by the labor leaders, both labor centers came to this resolute decision.

Following separate emergency National Executive Council (NEC) meetings held by the NLC and TUC, leaders from both organizations have called on Nigerians to prepare for an extended strike period. They have advised citizens to utilize the time between now and next Monday to stock up on essential items, including foodstuffs and other necessities.

While the Trade Union Congress (TUC) did not actively participate in the two-day warning strike organized by the NLC a fortnight ago, it has now resolved to collaborate with the NLC on this indefinite strike action.

In a joint communiqué presented by the Presidents of both the NLC and TUC, Joe Ajaero and Festus Osifo, respectively, at the Labour House in Abuja, state councils and affiliated unions under the two labor centers have been instructed to intensify their efforts in mobilizing members and allies for a comprehensive strike.

According to the communiqué jointly read by NLC and TUC Presidents, Joe Ajaero and Festus Osifo, respectively, at the Labour House in Abuja, it stated: “NLC and TUC in their various meetings deeply analyzed the current situation in the country, taking into cognizance the extensive hardships and deprivation afflicting our citizens across all states of the federation and unanimously condemned the apparent conscious lethargy and tardiness in handling the consequences of its Petrol Price hike on Nigerians."
