The NDLEA had wanted this Kingpin(Samuel Obiorah) on arrest for long and this stands as the most significant achievement among the recent string of arrests made by NDLEA operatives through their diligent interdiction operations, resulting in the seizure of an impressive four tons of illicit substances in the past week.
The agency had been tirelessly pursuing Obiorah since September 15, 2023, when they intercepted a consignment of 1.500 kilograms of skunk cleverly concealed within flour, destined for London, UK. This interception occurred at the SAHCO export shed of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, leading to the arrest of his freight agent, Nworah Precious.
According to the agency, "Obiorah, believing that the 1.500 kilograms consignment had successfully slipped through their net, unwittingly walked into the agency's grasp on September 28. On this occasion, he personally brought another shipment weighing 2.00 kilograms, concealed within cartons, to the airport, intending it for dispatch to the UK. During his interview, Obiorah disclosed that he had previously been involved in the shoe sales business in Lagos before venturing into the illicit drug trade."
Simultaneously, operatives from the Federal Capital Territory Command of the agency, on September 29, carried out an interception operation where they stopped a container truck bearing the registration number BD G41 XM, en route from Lagos to Kano at the Gwagwalada area of the FCT. It was discovered that a substantial 1,188 kilograms of skunk was hidden beneath the cartons of toothpaste loaded from Owo, Ondo State. The driver, Amafan Fattison, 28, was promptly taken into custody.
In a similar operation in Bayelsa State on September 27, NDLEA officers seized 432 kilograms of the same illicit substance which was discovered within an abandoned J5 bus along Saipem road, Opolo, Yenagoa. The vehicle was also impounded for further investigation.
