The beneficiaries of the program were mostly street beggars, who have a disability and are under the care of an association.

The church distributed food items, such as rice and millet to the homeless at Kano Road Central Mosque in Kaduna. Also available were mats for prayer, plastic kettles and other basic household items including mosquito nets.

In order to cushion the effects of fuel scarcity, food price hikes and the redesign of Nigeria's currency on society's underprivileged members, General Overseer Yohanna Buru told journalists that  the ministry is donating 50 bags of rice.

Buru also pointed out that the gesture was intended to foster peaceful coexistence among residents of the states in region, and promote religious tolerance.

“We are also reciprocating the gesture of Hajiya Ramatu Tijjani, a Muslim woman, who shares bags of rice, cash, and new clothes to  church widows and orphans during Christmas, New Year, and Easter celebrations,” he stated.

Last year, according to him, the church distributed bags of rice and other food items to poor Muslims throughout five northern states so that they could fully participate in religious worship during Ramadan.

“We are targeting over 1,000 poor Muslims as we bought 50 bags of maize and millets to share in some parts of the North,” he added.

The cleric urged traders not to raise the prices of food in Ramadan, although he encouraged the public to help those less fortunate than themselves.

One of the leaders of the Association of People Living with Disabilities in the state, Mallam Hassan Mohammed, expressed delight over the gesture, which he said had spanned over 10 years.

“We really appreciate our Christian brothers and sisters because the help they rendered came at a time of need when no one was bothered about us,” he said.
