Ifon/Ilobu Crisis: We’ve Made Some Arrests – Police

The Osun State Police Command has arrested several suspects In connection with the assassination of a 28-year-old man on Sunday in Okanala, Irepodun Local Government of the state.

Ibrahim Kudus, the victim, was slain by gunmen who broke into the home where he was living, shot him dead, then put his body in a car and set it on fire.

On Monday in Osogbo, the command's spokesperson, SP Yemisi Opalola, stated that while some suspects had been detained, normalcy had been restored to the region.

“We have made arrests concerning the incident and the CP, Kehinde Longe, has deployed officers to the area to maintain law and order.

“Presently, Police officers are on ground in the area and normalcy have returned, and people are going about their lawful businesses.” she said

The victim's uncle, Prince Jimoh Kadri, had earlier revealed to journalists that he was the gunmen's primary target.

He said, “I had gone out when my wife later called to inform me that some people numbering about 20 wearing hoods, came to the house with guns.

“I was told they met one of my younger brothers at home and killed him while they also burnt the house; they later dragged my brother’s body into a car and equally burnt him with the car.”

According to information obtained by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the event may be a spillover from the land dispute between the Ifon and Ilobu villages in the local government areas of Orolu and Irepodun.

The two settlements were subject to an indefinite curfew on Sunday from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. (NAN).
