Architect Sodiq Oluwole Obanoyen, the Caretaker Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party in Ekiti State, has been advised to redirect his efforts towards revitalizing his stagnant political career in his native State of Ondo, rather than assuming a nonexistent role as the Caretaker Chairman of the PDP in Ekiti State.
Responding to a press statement attributed to Obanoyen, in which he criticized Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji, the Ekiti Democratic Coalition (EDC), a local group, expressed its displeasure that a politician from Owo, Ondo State, was speaking on behalf of the PDP in Ekiti State.
EDC Convener Comrade Ogunlola Olatunde remarked that the people of Ekiti State are content with Governor Oyebanji's performance and find it disrespectful for Obanoyen to focus on Ekiti's affairs instead of addressing the deteriorating state of the Ikere – Akure road in Ondo State.
Upon reading the disjointed and inadequately written press statement, the EDC concluded that it could not have originated from the genuine PDP in Ekiti State, which boasts a roster of highly intelligent and professional media personnel.
Hence, it is unsurprising that Obanoyen, lacking knowledge about Ekiti's governance, was chosen to engage in futile political theatrics.
Had he been informed, he would have acknowledged Governor Oyebanji's dedication to public welfare. Recent instances include the settlement of accumulated leave bonuses for state workers and the initiation of programs to mitigate the impact of fuel subsidy removal.
Ekiti's roads undergo continuous rehabilitation, and both ongoing and inherited projects are advancing under the government's guidance.
Most crucially, the people of Ekiti State, who elected Governor Oyebanji, express no grievances. His performance aligns with their expectations and garners their satisfaction.
Therefore, Obanoyen and his adherents must cease deluding themselves that they represent Ekiti State's PDP. When Ekiti's PDP addresses state matters, it is clear whose voice will be respected and anticipated.
