Gov Akeredolu Settles Unpaid Salaries and Pension Arrears in Ondo

Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State has made significant strides in resolving the longstanding issue of unpaid salary arrears.

In a recent update provided by the Information and Orientation Commissioner, Mrs. Bamidele Ademola-Olateju, the governor has successfully settled all outstanding salary arrears owed to local government and primary school teachers, as well as pensioners, which were a burden from the previous administration.

This positive development was announced in Akure, during a briefing on the distribution strategy and implementation of palliatives. Ademola-Olateju explained that Governor Akeredolu's administration has successfully cleared the backlog of salary arrears that had been pending since 2016 and 2017.

Under the previous administration, local government staff, primary school teachers, and pensioners endured a protracted period of uncertainty due to unpaid salaries, spanning seven months.

” These months are: i. July – December 2016 and ii. January 2017. The government is already making arrangements also to offset all arrears of gratuities of retired LG staff and primary school teachers which dates back to 2012.”

The commissioner further mentioned that the state government has successfully delivered more than 23,900 bags of rice throughout the entire state. This action is aimed at alleviating the impact of the fuel subsidy removal, and additional distributions are planned before the year's end.

Ademola-Olateju highlighted that the Federal government has provided the state with over 8,000 bags of rice.

She also disclosed that the state government has finalized plans to provide a cash transfer of N10,000 to more than 18,000 vulnerable individuals across the state.

According to her ” 1,000 vulnerable persons are to benefit in each of the 18 local government areas.

” The list of beneficiaries is to be generated by the existing Local Government Committees in conjunction with the representatives of market women Association, Park Management Committee and United Partisan groups and religious bodies.
