
The Students’ Union Government has called on security agencies to thoroughly investigate the matter and apprehend those responsible for this heinous act.
The state police recently revealed that Modupe Atanda, who had previously been reported missing, was discovered dead and buried in a shallow grave near the university’s Nursing Lecture Theatre. The President of FUOYE SUG, Emmanuel Ajayi, and the Public Relations Officer, Elizabeth Akuraku, expressed their grief over the loss and emphasized the need for justice.
In a statement posted on their social media platform, the student leaders described Modupe Atanda as a bright and precious student. They demanded justice for her and urged Ekiti State security operatives to conduct a thorough investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice. The students visited the morgue and confirmed that no part of her body was mutilated, contrary to rumors.
The Ekiti State Police Commissioner, Dare Ogundare, assured the public that the police would do everything possible to identify the perpetrator(s) and ensure they face the full force of the law. He urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
The police statement also revealed that ten suspects are currently in custody and under investigation. The investigation aims to uncover the cause of Modupe Atanda's death and the circumstances surrounding her disappearance.
The university's management, in a statement by the University Registrar, Mufutau Ibrahim, confirmed the tragic loss of the student and extended condolences to her family and the entire university community.
The management assured everyone that investigations were ongoing in collaboration with national security agencies to determine the facts and bring the culprits to justice. They called for calm among students and stakeholders during this difficult time.
