Fire Guts Section of UCH as CMD Allays Fears

In the early hours of Saturday, a section of the University College Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan, Oyo State, experienced a fire outbreak.

At the scene, emergency responders worked to extinguish the fire.

In response to the incident, the authorities of the University College Hospital (UCH) assured that there is no need for alarm, as they managed to put out the fire that affected a section of the hospital.

Professor Abiodun Otegbayo, the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the hospital, clarified in an interview with reporters that as soon as the incident was detected, the hospital alerted three different fire services. These services promptly mobilized their resources and swiftly arrived at the scene to extinguish the fire.

He clarified that no patients were trapped in the area affected by the fire, which impacted part of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and one of the theatres. Contrary to certain speculations, he assured the relatives and families of patients that the situation was under control, and services had resumed through immediate alternative arrangements.
