The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) recently apprehended a private vehicle driver in connection with a tragic incident that occurred in Ogba, Lagos State. This information was conveyed through a detailed statement provided by Adebayo Taofiq, the Public Relations Officer of LASTMA, as reported by PUNCH Metro.
Quoting directly from the statement, Taofiq revealed that the driver of an unregistered white Mercedes Benz car with the license plate CLA 250 was involved in the incident. The preliminary inquiry indicated that the driver was overspeeding and lost control of the vehicle, resulting in a fatal collision with an innocent passerby who, regrettably, succumbed to the impact.
Upon recognizing the severity of the situation, LASTMA personnel swiftly apprehended the fleeing driver. Akinola Ganiyu, the commander of the LASTMA rescue team operating in the Agege-Iju-Ifako axis, confirmed the swift response and detailed that the driver was subsequently handed over to police officers from the Area 'G' Police Command. This transfer marked the commencement of further investigations into the incident.
Ganiyu also noted that, following the accident, the involved vehicle was promptly cleared from the road to ensure unimpeded vehicular movement. The deceased's family later arrived at the scene to retrieve the deceased's body.
