The Nigeria Medical Students Association, NIMSA, has criticised the Cross River State Government's unwillingness to connect with them following the death of three of their members in a boat accident.

Speaking on Sparkling FM's Let's Talk Nigeria morning discourse program, Dr Ejim Clement Egba, National President of NIMSA, and Dr Zuo Sese, another important figure, expressed disappointment that the state administration had ignored them and the victims' relatives.

“It’s not funny that up till now, three days after the unfortunate incident, no official or even the state government has reached out to us or even talked with the survivors.

“For God’s sake, we are in Cross River, and the tragic incident happened here.

“We thank Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Professor Florence Obi, who has been motherly and touched over the tragic and traumatic experience,” Egba said.

The survivors have left Calabar on Tuesday morning, but the officials were still present.

According to a government official who spoke on the condition of anonymity, they would meet with them soon once the preliminary processes have been completed and the Secretary to the State Government has completed a meeting with the resort's management by midday today.

It should be noted that state government officials were also present at the Marina Resort on Saturday afternoon before Governor Bassey Otu ordered the resort's closure.

Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong jr, representing Cross River South Senatorial District, had visited the 11 survivors at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital before their discharge.
