Atiku Abubakar's spokesperson, Daniel Bwala, called on lawmakers to pass "a specific law criminalizing breach of privacy without a court order" on Wednesday. Atiku was the Peoples Democratic Party's (PDP) 2016 presidential candidate.

According to reports, Bwala's assertion is supported by a recorded phone call between Bishop David Oyedepo, the founder of the Living Faith Church Worldwide, and Peter Obi, the Labour Party's presidential nominee. A news website called People's Gazette published the recording after it was leaked to the public.

Obi requested Bishop Oyedepo's assistance in reaching out to Christians in the South-west and some regions of the North-central in the audio recording.

The Labour Party's flag-bearer addressed the cleric as "daddy" and informed him that the recently concluded presidential race was a "religious war ".

Bwala took to his verified Twitter handle @BwalaDaniel to write that :

“In the wake of the leaked tape of a private conversation between private citizens, it’s about time a specific law criminalizing breach of privacy without an order of court be made.

“This is necessary to preserve the human rights of citizens as well as to protect the national security interests.

“Without this, it will be a case of free flow of leaks which might sadly involve citizens to citizens leaks, state to citizen leaks and citizens to state leaks with wider implications on agencies and agents of the state".
