The Akwa Ibom State Government has unveiled its commitment to augment the initial tranche of palliatives provided by the federal government with the release of one billion naira. In an official statement on Wednesday evening, the governor of the state, while addressing members of the Government House Press Corps, disclosed this supplementary palliative initiative. The distribution of these additional relief measures is scheduled to commence on Monday, September 4, 2023.
The governor assured that the injection of one billion naira, alongside the 3000 bags of rice and N2 billion previously received from the federal government, will enable equitable distribution of support to residents across the state's more than 2270 villages. Each village is anticipated to receive a minimum of 50 bags of rice.
His statement conveyed, "We are allocating at least 50 bags to each village, encompassing the Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo, Niger Delta, and other communities, including the security services and individuals unable to access the villages. While they may not reside within the villages, they remain an integral part of Akwa Ibom."
Furthermore, the governor elaborated on other initiatives geared toward improving various sectors. He highlighted an additional gratuity allocation for teachers, amounting to two billion naira, intended for both the local government and the state. He also emphasized the initiation of single projects in each local government to stimulate employment opportunities for the youth.
Acknowledging the multifaceted nature of these efforts, he explained, "We are adopting quick solutions that span short, medium, and long-term packages to address the diverse needs of our populace."
