
Beginning in January 2024, the Nigerian Ministry of Aviation intends to compel compensation for travelers impacted by postponed or canceled flights.
Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation, disclosed this information when defending his budget before the Joint Committee of the National Assembly on Aviation.
The Ministry will name airlines with verified reports of flight delays and cancellations in a weekly media publication as part of this endeavor. By encouraging openness and accountability, this "shame list" hopes to motivate airlines to enhance their dependability and emphasize consumer happiness.
“I have called on the Customer’s Satisfaction Commission regarding the treatment of Nigerians,” stated Keyamo.
“I reiterated at our stakeholders meeting in Lagos and our retreat in Warri that there will be a weekly publication listing airlines that fail to operate flights on time, cancel flights, or delay them significantly, along with the duration of these delays.”
Keyamo further emphasized the importance of passenger compensation: “For every delay, there is a report, an official report by the regulator. What did the airline do? Did they pay compensation?”
