About 8,852 kilograms of Canadian Loud, a synthetic cannabis strain, were seized in a recent raid by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Eleko Beach Road in Lekki, Lagos State.
According to news sources, the operation, which happened on May 4, 2023, entailed a 30-minute clash with armed men who were transporting the illegal cargo in two large trucks.
Femi Babafemi, an NDLEA spokesperson, claimed that the operatives had set up an ambush for the traffickers based on reliable intelligence.
After being flagged down, the trucks refused to stop and sped away with the armed guys, which resulted in a 30-minute gunfight until the NDLEA agents were able to subdue them. The truck drivers and their armed guards managed to flee into the surrounding woods, leaving the trucks and the drug shipments behind.
The total number of bags was 202, with a gross weight of 8,852 kilograms, in the first vehicle, which was painted red and included 149 jumbo bags weighing 6,548 kilograms. The second truck, which was coloured blue, held 53 big bags weighing 2,304 kilograms.
The NDLEA's spokesperson, Babafemi, also stated that the organization was already pursuing the drug lord who brought the shipment into the nation.
