On Friday, Mr. Wole Oke, a member of the House of Representatives who represents the Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency, claimed that his supporters had been attacked at the Government Reserve Area in Osogbo, Osun State, by alleged political thugs.
In a statement that he personally signed and got in Osogbo, Oke said that the attack happened shortly after some northerners in his constituency visited him and said they would support his reelection.
During the attack, he said, 15 people had to be treated in an Osogbo hospital for machete wounds.
He also said that the police had been given one of the people who were caught doing the crime to look into further.
"Some Hausa residents who came from Obokun Local Government to declare their loyalty to me in my house at the GRA of Osogbo were on Friday attacked, inflicted with machete cuts, beaten with clubs and other dangerous weapons by suspected political thugs," was one portion of the statement.
15 of them were severely injured. They were then rushed to an Osogbo hospital, where they are now being treated.
“One of the criminals who was apprehended stated that they were sponsored by a political functionary with ties to Osogbo. The state police command has been informed of the situation.
It was unsuccessful to reach Osun police spokesperson Yemisi Opalola for comment.
Seyi Bamidele, the Peoples Democratic Party's South West Youth Leader, made the announcement on Friday that he and other party members would not attend a town hall meeting in Lagos to rally youths in the region in support of the party's presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
In an Osogbo statement, Bamidele accused the party's National Youth Leader Mohammed Suleiman of excluding PDP youths from the region from the event's planning.
Bamidele specifically stated that he was excluded due to alleged support for the effort to remove Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, the party's National Chairman.
The PDP zonal youth leader, despite swearing allegiance to the party, stated that he and other youth members of the South-West caucus would not attend the event.
