The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, is said to have a high esteem for traditional rulers. The revered preacher has never asked a king to give up their throne so he might sit on it.
Contrary to rumors, the church said in a statement that the octogenarian cleric sat in a new chair during the church's evangelism drive in Oyo State.
During the church's Let's-Go-A-Fishing evangelism activity last weekend, which was attended by Oba Francis Alao, the Olugbon of Orile-Igbon in Oyo State, Pastor Adeboye was spotted sitting on a royal chair.
Many social media critics criticized the viral photo, but the concerned monarch emphasized on Monday that Pastor Adeboye was not sitting on his throne, but rather one of the royal chairs used by high-ranking dignitaries.
Furthermore, the RCCG made it clear in its statement that Pastor Adeboye did not request the king's abdication in order to take the throne for himself.
“At no point during his time at the ministration did he ask any of the kings to vacate their throne for him to sit on.
“The seat on the altar was brand new. No other king or individual had sat on the seat before.
“Pastor E.A. Adeboye truly respects and honours the traditional chiefs & traditional rulers in our nation. He honours them, holds them in high regard and would not do anything at all to demean them.”
