At the launch of ActionAid Nigeria's Interfaith Facilitators' Guide on Friday in Kano, Bayero issued the following call.
The emir, who was represented by Babba Dan-Agundi, District Head of Nasarawa, stated that the ministry's mission will be to foster religious harmony in Nigeria. Kano, he said, is an oasis of calm where people of all faiths may live together without animosity.
“Peace is indispensable aspect of creatures on the planet, and there is a compelling need for it to be safeguarded,” he said.
The royal father said the dialogue was timely, because it promoted peaceful coexistence. He added that Kano had occupied a prominent position in accommodating people from diverse faiths since before Nigeria's independence.
In his sermon during the interfaith meeting organised by ActionAid Nigeria, Ene Obi (Country Director of ActionAid in that country) said there was a need for Nigerians to uphold the virtues of interfaith dialogue towards promoting peaceful coexistence.
“We must be seen to leave in peace with one another irrespective of tribe, religion and political differences for our collective political growth,” she said.
She believes that the facilitators' guide will help people understand inter-faith dialogue better.
Dr Muhammad Mustapha-Yahaya, Executive Director of Dispute Resolution and Development Initiative (DRDI), described it as “a timely tool that will provide much needed guidance in addressing the menace of extremism”.
