The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has suspended two ministers, Pastor Ayorinde AdeBello and Deacon Oke Mayowa, amid serious allegations of homosexuality.
This decision follows the release of a list by the popular blog Gistlover, which implicated several prominent Nigerians, sparking widespread discussion on social media.
An internal memo dated October 28, 2024, from RCCG National Overseer Pastor Sunday Akande, outlined the church's commitment to biblical principles and the necessity of addressing these allegations seriously.
The memo emphasized that the church’s doctrine does not tolerate homosexuality, citing relevant biblical passages to reinforce its stance.
Pastor Akande has instructed that a thorough investigation be conducted within two weeks, urging confidentiality and respect for all parties involved. During this time, AdeBello and Mayowa are to refrain from any church activities as a precautionary measure.
In light of these developments, Pastor Ayorinde has publicly denied the allegations through an Instagram post. He described the accusations as damaging and clarified that they stem from misinterpretations of a WhatsApp group discussion aimed at educating teenagers about health and self-esteem.
He reiterated his innocence, asserting that he has never engaged in any inappropriate behaviour.
