Zamfara Bans Government Officials From Granting Media Interviews

The Zamfara State government has issued a notice stating that all political office holders and heads of agencies must seek permission from the authority before directing any interview, issuing press statements, or airing programmes on television, radio, and social media.

Additionally, media outlets based in the state are cautioned to abstain from directing or airing any television or radio programme without the acceptance of the Ministry of Information. The commissioner of information, Mannir Haidara, affirmed that the information ministry was highly dedicated to monitoring all radio stations for compliance.

The statement released by the Zamfara state Ministry of Information and Culture reiterates that no political officeholder, group, or head of any agency is allowed to direct any interview, issue statement, or air a programme on radio, television stations, or social media without seeking authorization from the authority.

The Ministry also urged media outlets situated in the state to abstain from directing or airing any television or radio programmes on the government's plans for any individuals or group of people without the consent of the supervising Ministry or the Ministry of Information.

The information ministry is committed to monitoring radio stations for compliance to ensure that all information passed to the general public on government and its strategies is true and appropriately circulated.
