We need unity to make progress in Nigeria – Kwankwasiyya leader

Alhaji Mashood Shittu, a former presidential candidate and National Chairman of the Alliance National Party has emphasised the collective need for all Nigerians to unite in order to achieve progress and development in the country.

Alhaji Shittu harped on the importance of unity in Nigeria during his speech in Umuahia, where he represented the governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, at the 66th birthday celebration of High Chief Uche James Akwukwaegbu, a business mogul based in Ibeku, Umuahia.

According to Shittu, the Special Adviser to Governor Yusuf on External Affairs and leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement in North Central, it is not easy to live up to 66 years in Nigeria today because of the prevailing hardship.”

He stated that Akwukwaegbu's ability to live up to 66 years in present day Nigeria was due to his achievements. He said, "If he had lived a wasteful life, he may not be alive today, but he lived a peaceful and developed life, hence his rest of mind."”

When sharing his thoughts on Abia State, Shittu revealed that it was his first time visiting the state. He went on to stress the need for Nigerians to visit different parts of the country in order to build a united bridge and promote national growth.

“We have been sharing words about Nigeria, especially about the court case of NNPP, and all that I heard from the people here in Abia State was that NNPP is Kano, but they made it to be a national issue. The people of Umuahia are friendly.”
