The Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, has reported as regrettable the stampede at its office in Yaba, Lagos State, following the sale of 25kg bags of rice to Lagos residents that led to the death of seven individuals.

It was gathered that some persons were trampled to death as a mass of people thronged the venue of the sale of the bags of seized rice at the Yaba office of the service on Friday, February 23, 2024, due to the economic hardship in the country.

According to journalists, a member of the All Progressives Congress, APC, identified as Comfort Adebanjo, and six other persons lost their lives in the bid to buy the rice which was sold for N10,000 at the Customs office in Yaba.

Oluwafemi Fadahunsi, coordinator of FKL Ward E1, Lagos State of the APC, and Secretary, Adebari Adewale, affirmed that Adebanjo was one of the seven persons who lost their lives during the stampede.

Meanwhile, Seye Oladejo, Lagos APC Publicity Secretary, informed our reporter that he could not verify the news involving the member yet. “I also saw it in the news. I will try to communicate with the local government concerned.

I don't have the authority to speak about that because I also saw it in the news and I want to hear from our people over there before being explicit about it. Once I get the truth of the incident, I’ll inform you,” Oladejo asserted.
