Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike recently revealed that President Bola Tinubu has allocated approximately N300 billion for development across the six Area Councils in the FCT over the past 17 months.
This announcement was made during the commissioning of the 9-kilometre Paikon Kore – Ibwa road in Ibwa village, Gwagwalada Area Council, a project that cost N8.5 billion.
Wike highlighted specific projects funded by the president, including the Aguma Palace – Market Road, which has an estimated cost of N22 billion and is set to be commissioned in May. He also mentioned significant investments in educational infrastructure, detailing renovations at several secondary schools in Gwagwalada, amounting to N16.5 billion.
Additionally, he noted the construction of three police divisions in Gwagwalada, bringing the total investment in that area alone to over N50 billion within a short timeframe.
The minister emphasized the importance of public awareness regarding these developments to counter any narratives suggesting that government efforts are concentrated solely in urban centers.
Abdulkadir Zulkiflu, Coordinator of the FCT Satellite Towns Development Department, confirmed that the contract for the Paikon Kore – Ibwa road was awarded on January 5, 2024, with construction beginning shortly thereafter.
He stated that this road project has significantly improved business opportunities and facilitated the transport of goods and services for over 70 communities along its route.
