Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Bola Tinubu, clarified that the President has not claimed the title of Minister of Petroleum. Instead, President Tinubu oversees the Petroleum Ministry’s two ministers, with specific focus areas assigned under his supervision.

During an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Sunday, Onanuga explained, “The President has never referred to himself as the Minister of Petroleum; this is a media-created perception. We have two designated ministers, one of whom is tasked with overseeing gas.”

Onanuga highlighted the administration’s focus on gas, stating, “Nigeria is primarily a gas-rich country, and the government is committed to emphasizing this resource.” He noted that former President Olusegun Obasanjo had admitted to overlooking gas during his tenure, a gap President Tinubu is now addressing by prioritizing gas development.

“The President supervises all his ministers and is ultimately responsible for their portfolios,” Onanuga concluded.
